How To Use A Computer For Recording
Wednesday, April 18th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedEverything is now ready for you to start recording on your computer. But it is important that before you start any recording you make sure that you everything is set up to go and that everything you need is plugged in and so you can now start recording. The best thing you can do is plug in your inputs so that you are ready to start recording at any time you want ensure that you set the trim and levels so that you will have a normal input that gives close to 0db on the recording when the fader is on.
Now you can start.
First mix in the blocks; maybe start with the rhythm section (guitars and vocals). It is best that each block start consists of a prominent track say the drums and then set yourself a comfortable level.
Next you can add the other tracks (do them one at a time) until they are audible. It is important that you wear headphones during this stage so that you can omit all other sounds out of the equation. As you complete each block you should mute them and start working on the next one.
Then once you have all the blocks completed you can finally begin mixing them together just like you would mix the tracks. If you can use a mixer that has sub-groups as this really helps and makes it much easier for you when mixing blocks and tracks.
When first starting off recording why not spend some time practicing what has been shown above by remixing the same song several times and then compare the results that you get from each remixing. Although you should hopefully get a good mix every time that you do it you will also find that every one of them is different from the one before.
Be careful when recording on your computer, as digital audio can be very unforgiving especially when it becomes overloaded. If you have too much signal when carrying out a recording you will find that it is useless and you will need to start again.
